Being Church at All Times – 260

Tuesday 27 May 2025

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

On Thursday 29th May, we celebrate the Ascension of Christ which marks the end of Jesus' earthly ministry. We give thanks that when Jesus returns to the Father, he takes our humanity with him, and we worship him as our Risen, Ascended and Glorified Lord . Do come and join us for a Eucharist at 10am.

Green Investments
Anyone who missed the meeting after church last Sunday and would like further information can email the Eco Group: ecogroup@stursula.ch and sign up for our Eco newsletters. A newsletter will be sent out shortly on the theme of finance and it will include much of the information mentioned on Sunday.

Sunday 1st June
We will have our usual Sunday Eucharist at 10am.
In the afternoon there will be an Ecumenical Vesper Service to mark the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea. This will be at the Münster at 17:00, followed by an Apéro. Everyone is welcome.

Thy Kingdom Come
For several years now, many different churches have encouraged their members to set aside more time to pray during the period between Ascension Day and Pentecost: to pray for 5 people (friends, family or work colleagues) who do not know the love of Jesus, and to make more time to focus on God ourselves, praying 'Thy Kingdom Come' and 'Come, Holy Spirit.' There are different resources available every year. Below are some which are provided for this year. There are digital detox booklets for adults and teenagers to encourage us to put aside our screens to pray; a prayer journal; and some activity sheets for children and families.

Pentecost Special Service, Photo, and International Lunch
Pentecost is 8th June. Please do join us for this special service as we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the church.
After the service we will be taking a new church photo to go on the home page of our new website. We would like as many people as possible, of all ages, countries and cultures, to be in the photo.
International lunch: we will then share a lunch together as in previous years. We encourage everyone to bring a dish from their region or country to share. This is a very special community occasion so don't miss it!

Ascension
I leave you with a poem for Ascension Day

We saw his light break through the cloud of glory
Whilst we were rooted still in time and place,
As earth became a part of heaven's story
And heaven opened to his human face.
We saw him go and yet were not parted,
He took us with him to the heart of things,
The heart that broke for all the broken-hearted
Is whole and heaven-centred now, and sings;
Sings in the strength that rises out of weakness,
Sings through the clouds that veil him from our sight,
Whilst we ourselves become his clouds of witness
And sing the waning darkness into light;
His light in us, and ours in him concealed,
Which all creation waits to see revealed.
